Invergordon 31 Year; Morrison & Mackay Càrn Mòr
Simple and delicious. This Invergordon did not have a ton of complexity or depth to its flavor profile, but what it did have was good. The milky profile was quite unique and made this really easy to sit back and sip. This would be an ideal easy sipper for the end of the a long day— there are some pleasantly interesting notes, but nothing agressive and nothing that demands attention to understand.
Allt-A-Bhainne 7 Year 108.17 “As balanced as a ballerina”
Bright and full of youthful spirit this dram is remarkably complex though the flavor profile is subtle and light enough that it is easily overpowered by anything else sitting on your palate.
Glenlossie 17 Year SMWS 46.84 “Velvet Complexity” / “Sipping from a velvet Tardis”
An immensely popular dram at a local virtual tasting, this Glenlossie had enough complexity from the double oloroso maturation/finish that there was plenty to love. It had great structure or body from the wine and wood influence.
Glen Spey 11 Year SMWS 80.10 “Effervescence and roses”
Bright and citrusy with just a kiss of spice this Glen Spey made for an easy summer dram. The initial citrus notes give a bit of a punch to what is otherwise a lovely crisp and simple profile.
Laphroaig Cairdeas 2019 Triple Wood
Unlike the 2018 release, I think this one more clearly embodies some of the classic iodine and salty maritime notes of Laphroaig. This was a wonderful mix of brine and fruit with enough complex meaty notes to keep my interest.
