Narrative & Notes: Unfinished wooden benches and digestif biscuits tickled the senses until more tropical vibes set in. Tropical fruits and mellow florals kissed with brown sugar danced in the aroma as guava, tangerines, and java apples (or mountain apple, as I know it) developed. Behind the sugars and fruits lay botanical garden notes of gardenia and plumeria, with richer notions of teak, sandalwood, and wood resins. Medium-bodied with a luscious tropical fruit and woody resinous profile. Blood oranges and mountain apples led to tangerines before spicier notions of black pepper and cassia bark arrived. It was back to the botanical garden with earthy mulch, woody resins, and floral spice as annatto and plumeria poked in around the edges. The finish was medium-length with some tannic dryness and lingering notes of black pepper, brown sugar cakes, and bruised tropical fruits.
Wow— now this was a bit of a stunner with tons of juicy tropical fruits and woody resins upfront and just enough earth and floral spice in the background to provide some contrast. This was not a subtle whisky— it featured big and bold flavors without much depth behind them— but boy, when the music is good, turn up the volume. There were times I felt it was a bit too woody, but I kept coming back for more. A few drops of water tamed some of the pepper and wood, but at the cost of the sharper fruit notes and the appearance of some slightly bitter notes on the finish— a bargain I did not find worthwhile.
Overall, this was delightful and set a high water mark for the folks at Picadilly Agro.
