Whether you visit regularly or just stop by every so often, you may have noticed some changes to the site.
I have wanted to update the look and feel of the website for quite a while. I kicked off in 2019 with just a basic Square Space template and never really made any changes to it; I never found another template that I liked and I never found the time to invest in trying to figure out how to create something better from scratch. Truth be told, I would have been happy just going back to an old geocities type set up… but maybe that is just nostalgia for the old internet.
A few weeks ago I got to playing with the settings on Square Space, having against come around to the idea of wanting to make some changes. Well, I made irreversible changes… it was a combination of user error and difficulty seeing the implications of switching to a new template on Square Space. Deeply unhappy with some of the changes, I went look at Word Press for solutions. I was somewhat familiar with their product thanks to my good buddy Scotch&Sheen, and of course contributing for Malt Runners.
This kicked off a mad dash to find something that generally fit my needs on Word Press, and then to import all of the content from Square Space and the domain.
I think the new set up works well, or I hope it does. There were some pages and reviews that had issues after the import, but I believe I fixed most of them over the past couple of weeks. I will change how the features images and review layouts look over the next month, but the format of things is otherwise more or less okay. The bigger issue is broken links; I did not realize until this morning that the way Square Space and Word Press organize the pages was different as the various pages I tested out all worked… I should have kept clicking! This also means that any old links that were shared, and even results on Google, sometimes still work…. but are now sometimes also broken.
So what’s next?
Well, getting back to actually posting reviews and some house-keeping around the website to fix issues as I find them. Hope you enjoy the new look as much as I do, and don’t mind the dust as I continue tweaking things behind the scenes.
Cheers!
