Nose: Fruity grape and strawberry candies with mellow herbal notes of menthol notes and cough syrup.
Palate: Medium to full-bodied with syrupy fruits, cigar boxes, fruit cakes, gingerbread, baking spices, and a tingling-spirited pepperiness.
Finish: Long and lingering with fruit skins, fig jam, and a touch of tobacco.

Narrative & Notes: Fruity candies from the medical supply cabinet— grape fizzers, pop rocks, strawberry gushers, it was an absolute grab bag of sweet fruity candies with musk, oakmoss, and menthol riding in the back toward medicinal cough syrups and antiseptics. A hospital candy shop? Medium to full-bodied on the palate with syrupy fruits and background notions of cigar boxes and old tobacco pipes. Grape, orange, and fig candies and cakes appeared with gingerbread, cardamon, and a spice box worth of tingling pepper before shifting toward richer spices and tobacco near the end. The finish was long and lingering with fruit skins, fig jam, and a touch of tobacco.
The two most impressive aspects of this whisky were the balanced mouthfeel and the structure of the flavors. The whisky never felt harsh, overly spirited, too tannic, or any of the sins one might commit with a young malt aged in a warm-ish climate in a very active cask. The palate was almost buttery if it were not for the peppery, tingling spice at the end. The structure of the flavors was excellent as well, and what I mean by that is you get a clear wave of fruits when you take a sip that cleanly shifts toward spice, then tobacco, and then a tingling pepper. You aren’t confronted by everything at once and the whisky naturally transitions through different types of flavors as you sip.
Overall, a robust and big affair that still managed to be well-balanced and tasty. Aptly named by the Jack Rose.
