Glen Moray 11 Year; Berry Bros. & Rudd “Panorama Art Series”
Whisky : Glen Moray 11 Year; Berry Bros. & Rudd “Panorama Art Series”
Country/Region : Scotland/Speyside
ABV : 53.5%
Cask : Ex-Bourbon
Age : 11 Year (Distilled 2007, Bottled 2019)
Nose : Grape-nut cereal, apple sauce, pineapple, and hard candies. Malt and fruit gave way to herbal notes of menthol and peppery parsley. Waxy citrus rinds, sandalwood, and bergamot arrived after some time to rest.
Palate : Medium to thick body; sweet, fruity, and spirited. Hot apple cider, caramel candied apples, and sugar free black cherry Kool-aide with soy sauce— a great recipe for green mango dipping sauce. Fruity notes of apple sauce led to a sweet grassiness, menthol candies, and a faint chalkiness.
Finish : Lingering sweet sugars and apple skins.
Score : 5
Mental Image : Apple Cider Press
Notes : An orchard fruity bomb if ever there was one, this Glen Moray was absolutely loaded with sweet waxy fruits and malty undertones. There was a nice depth to the palate between mango dipping sauce and an almost balsamic vinegar note. I marked this down a little bit as I did find it became overly sweet the more I got into the glass; those apple-like sugars really built on the palate over time. Additionally, the dram showed a lot of youth and there was no dodging some of the sharper spirit notes that occasionally came through.
Overall, a surprisingly fruity dram and one that would probably hold up very well on the rocks as a slow evening sipper. If Glen Moray already tickles your fancy, you will not doubt find a lot to love with this dram.
I also thought the label was pretty nice and tried to match up the label art with where it sits on Georges Seurat’s “Un dimanche après-midi à l'Île de la Grande Jattee.” It looks like the rest of the bottles in this the larger painting for their bottle art.
