Linkwood 9 Year, Douglas Laing’s Old Particular, K&L Wine Merchant Selection

Whisky : Linkwood 9 Year, Douglas Laing’s Old Particular, K&L Wine Merchant Selection

Country/Region : Scotland/Speyside

ABV : 62.6%

Cask : Refill Barrel

Age : 9 Years (Distilled Feb. 2011, Bottled Aug. 2020)

Nose : Fruity and light with hints of florals and citrus.  Apple soda, fruity tea, fresh raspberries, and a mild lavender-floral air freshener.

Palate :  Medium to light body with a nice oily mouthfeel.  A bit spirited at first, but with lovely notes of lemon, apple juice, and citrus oils.  Sugary frosted lemon pound cake and marzipan macarons with a mild pithy dryness.

Finish :  Medium length, slightly dry with white sugar and lemon.

Score : 5

Mental Image : Lemon Sugar Crepe

Notes : Simple and fruity, this was delightful.  While not the most complex Linkwood I have encountered, it was perfectly acceptable without any really off notes.  It was a bit spirited and youthful, but a few drops of water and time to breath really toned things down.  There was not a lot of depth to the dram, but it was perfectly pleasant.

Overall, a nice and mild-mannered dram perfect for when you do not want something too heavy or attention grabbing.  I also thought this made for a nice highball.
