Glenlossie 8 Year; Lady of the Glen

Whisky : Glenlossie 8 Year; Lady of the Glen

Country/Region : Scotland/Speyside

ABV : 56.8%

Cask : Ex-Bourbon, Ruby Port (6 mo.)

Age : 8 Years (Distilled 8 Oct. 2010, Bottled 10 April 2019)

Nose : Creamy fruits and pastry.  Notes of lemon meringue, vanilla custard, fruit curd, and sliced pears.  Hints of moon drop grapes, dried apricot, and granola with dried berries.

Palate : Medium bodied with a floral, sweet, syrupy profile of Honeysuckle.  Fruit and floral notes of lemon butter cookies, toast with marmalade, and lemon curd.  Wild flowers and honey lingered on the palate with dried lemon wedges, subtle peppercorn, and a mild herbal tea.

Finish :  Lingering dryness with citrus sugars.

Score : 6

Mental Image : Backyard Honeysuckle

Notes : A deliciously floral Glenlossie.  The port finish complimented the gentle malt to produce something wonderful and delicious.  The cask finish was not too heavy and paired well with the lighter malt rather than burying it.  While this was a bit simple, and definitely on the young side as some spirit notes came through on the back end, it was still quite tasty.  I loved the impression of sucking on honeysuckle.  As a child I happily feasted on the scant sweet drops of liquid in the honeysuckle flowers.  Though this was a good deal sweeter than flowers, but the citrus notes kept the overall saccharine quality in line.

Overall, nicely balanced and quite tasty for a gentle, light, and refreshing dram.
